This part-time, hourly staff position requires approximately 7 hours/week over 2 days. We offer flexibility in scheduling during regular office or school hours.

About Acton-Boxborough United Way (ABUW): ABUW fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in Acton and Boxborough. We identify and raise-up the most pressing issues in our community and bring together the people we think can solve them. We fund and collaborate with local agencies and community partners to address complex problems, such as housing, hunger, domestic violence, children, youth and senior services, isolation and mental health.

Position Overview: To support the Executive Director to achieve our non-profit mission, keeping volunteers foremost in mind, and to coordinate communications to increase ABUW’s visibility in our community and beyond.

Key responsibilities

  1. Provide administrative support to the Executive Director.
    • Prepare, compile and coordinate meeting materials for Board, Committee and community partner and stakeholder meetings.
    • Provide assistance during grant allocation cycle, from scheduling agency interviews and site visits to final reporting.
    • Support all aspects of day-to-day operations and program implementation.
    • Handle phone inquiries, email and correspondence.
    • Manage vendors, office equipment and supplies.
  2. Prepare internal and external communications.
    • Update website content in collaboration with internal team.
    • Manage social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and create and distribute e-newsletter.
    • Responsible for data entry and report generation in the donor management database.
    • Coordinate community and donor mailings.
    • Manage and provide ideas to expand image bank and videos.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors’ degree preferred.
  • Proven track record in providing administrative/secretarial support.
  • Proven track record in designing and managing internal and external communications.


  • Fluent in the English language, with very strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in both Google and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong social media skills.
  • Experience with creating and updating website content.
  • Knowledge of Constant Contact and basic graphic design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with general office equipment.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of United Way.

Proven follow up skills to ensure successful and timely completion of projects. Provide excellent customer service for volunteers, donors and partners. Be donor/volunteer-centric and delight the many community members you will be interacting with.

Compensation: Up to $20/hour depending on experience.
